Yajan Goel, a student at Strawberry Fields High School is an environmentalist wishing to pursue a degree in management. It is his belief that it is the duty of humans to preserve the world for their descendants to enjoy, just as they have gotten too. That is why he endeavours to fight for a sustainable future and hopes to convince you to say YES to the environment.
Horrified by the onslaught brought on by COVID-19, my leadership instinct motivated me to help ease the suffering. I founded Aasha, alongside a classmate, to provide oxygen cylinders, essential medicines and food to people stuck in quarantine. However, I realised all of these were just temporary solutions and in order to catalyse purposeful impact I needed to do something so in collaboration with Oasis Textiles we organised a vaccine camp where we provided vaccines for a 150 factory workers.
Working towards a sustainable future is something that is of paramount importance for me. Recognising the wasteful nature of uniforms made for factory workers, I started a brand Ethication selling t-shirts made from 100% recycled cotton sourced from Tirupur, India. Selling more than 500 t-shirts to four different factories, I displayed my entrepreneurial prowess while campaigning for a viable future.
Hailing from a business-centric family I have been surrounded by profit motive and industrialism from an early age however that did not hinder me from pushing those around me towards a sustainable future. Convincing my father to replace his yarn-spinning machines for those that use 100% recycled cotton was just the beginning. As I watched my grandfather converse with farmers from our hometown, I realised the lack of literacy surrounding sustainable farming and organic produce. That is why I ventured deep into the villages and talked to the farmers, answering their questions, holding workshops and talk educating them about the benefits of sustaining soil and why it should be implemented.
As I pursued my interest for a computer science, I recognised the applications of computer science in business, leading me to co-present a research paper at the AIEEE business conference titled “Artificial Intelligence in Economical Structures”. This paper was crucial in helping me harness both aspects of my personality in order to unlock my true potential
After visiting an orphanage and bearing witness to the deplorable conditions, I was convinced that I had to do my part and contribute in order to make their lives easier. That is why I in collaboration with three classmates organised a winter fair titles "FestiVista" in order to raise money for the underprivileged children. We raised 1 lakh rupees and donated them to the orphanage.
While seeking opportunities outside of school, I tried to find academic challenges as well, leading me to seek admission into the Wharton School of Business’s online summer program: Future of the Business World. Across the ten-day program, I was tasked with creating a product while solved an essential problem in daily life and presenting it alongside my teammates. After hours of discussion we decided that an alarm clock was the best product for students. It possessed various features that enabled the alarm clock to effectively enable you to wake up on time while sleeping better. It was an educative experience that transformed my outlook on product design and marketing.
In pursuit of my interest in computer science, I worked as an intern with Verzeo where I was a member of a twenty person team tasked with designing an artificially intelligent model capable of recognising ageing signs in any face. Taught how to design AI models using Python, I developed a fluent understanding of how to code using Python and create various different models. This internship was crucial in developing my budding interest in computer science.
I worked as an intern with New Energie, where I was tasked with studying the performance of the company in the Solar Energy Industry - using various strategic models - and making a 25-year P&L statement showing the net savings of using solar to the potential customer. This internship was crucial in providing me with experience in the real world and giving me a hands-on understanding on how the economy works and how it affects businesses.
